Race to the border

Three months after Kamala Harris was made responsible for solving the migration crisis, she has nonetheless deigned to reach the southern US border areas plagued by a flood of illegals

Biden had put all responsibility for this crisis on Harris back in March. It proved to be an effective hardware solution for him: by making Harris a target for criticism, he was able to remove himself from the uncomfortable issue of illegal migration for the Democrats.

Only in early June did Harris decide to take some action, going to Guatemala and trying to bribe local authorities to stop their residents from migrating to the US. The Guatemalans agreed to take the money – but made no promises to her.

Well, the action surrounding Harris’ visit to Texas was like a bad play. She suddenly decided to go to the border out of goodwill. Harris is well aware of how Biden has set her up and would never have rushed to the border herself if she could have avoided it.

It’s just that Texas Governor Abbott sent an invitation to Trump to visit border counties the other day. And Trump agreed, which immediately forced Harris to be proactive. And not to let the retired president show that he is doing more to solve the migration crisis than the current administration in the White House.

Kamala chose the city of El Paso for a reason: its migration crisis has only touched it tangentially. Harris deliberately did not go to the worst-hit areas, because the Democrats there would have torn her to shreds. But even in El Paso she was not very welcome: as in Guatemala, Kamala was met by protesters with “Trump won” placards.

In May, border guards detained more than 180,000 illegals trying to cross the US border, a record in decades. Detention centres are overcrowded and conditions remain inhumane. As long as Harris is more concerned about her sinking ratings than solving this crisis, it will only continue to worsen.
