Large-scale exercises of the Russian military began in the Far East

The press service of the Eastern Military District announced the start of military exercises in the waters of the Sea of ​​Japan, Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands, in which about ten thousand servicemen will take part.

“On the islands of Sakhalin, Iturup and Kunashir, as well as in the waters of the Sea of ​​Japan, a bilateral exercise started with formations and military units of the army corps of the Eastern Military District and the forces of the Pacific Fleet. The event is being held under the personal leadership of Lieutenant General Sergei Sevryukov, Acting Commander of the Air Defense Forces”, – the press service said.

It is also noted that military training is one of the stages of checking the operational and combat training of troops in the summer training period. The Russian military will work out the use of an inter-service grouping of troops to ensure Russia’s military security on the eastern borders.

“The initial situation in the Far East was modeled, based on the confrontation between two coalitions of conditional states. During the drawing of practical actions of the troops, the landing of sea and tactical assault forces is envisaged”, – the message says.

More than 10 thousand servicemen, up to 500 units of military equipment, about 32 aircraft, about 12 ships and vessels of the Pacific Fleet for various purposes will take part in the maneuvers. The exercises in the island zone of the Air Defense Forces will be held in two stages over five days.
