Former US Ambassador McFaul praised Russian journalists in Geneva

Former US Ambassador to Moscow Michael Mayfol praised the Russian journalists with whom he spoke in Geneva ahead of the meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin with his American counterpart Joe Biden.

During his visit to Geneva, McFaul spoke to reporters. In particular, he explained to the RIA Novosti correspondent why there would not be a joint press conference between Putin and Biden, saying that the past with Donald Trump was terrible from the point of view of Washington’s interests.

“I talked to some Russian journalists by chance on the street here in Geneva. Reminded me that there remain some quality journalists in Russia trying to do their jobs under difficult circumstances. (Sorry, for my broken Russian!)”, – he wrote.

McFaul was ambassador to Russia from 2012-2014 when Barack Obama was the president of the United States. McFaul is now a professor at Stanford University. He is banned from entering the Russian Federation.
