Merkel to travel to US to resolve dispute over Nord Stream-2

According to the newspaper Handelsblatt, the visit of the German Chancellor will take place in July or August.

As reported by TASS, on Friday the Handelsblatt newspaper reported that German Chancellor Angela Merkel will visit Washington to settle the dispute over the implementation of the Nord Stream-2 project.

“According to the sources of the German newspaper, the exact date has not yet been determined, but it is expected that the visit will take place in July or August. The negotiations will cover a wide range of topics, but, as the newspaper notes, the main attention will be focused on the discussion of Nord Stream-2”, – the message says.

German officials have put forward a number of proposals designed to help defuse the conflict over the pipeline. According to the newspaper, after revision and approval procedures, these materials will form the basis of negotiations between US President Joe Biden and Merkel. This trip will mark the Chancellor’s first visit to the capital of the United States since Biden’s victory in the presidential election.
