President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Donbass to visit the leading Ukrainian military personnel, the press service of the office of the head of the Ukrainian state said.
“Zelensky has begun a working trip to the Donetsk region. The head of state will visit the forward positions of the Ukrainian military in the area of the Joint Forces Operation and talk to the fighters who are serving on the front lines”, – the statement said.
Prior to that, Zelensky visited Donbass in early May. He visited the Luhansk region, the ambassadors of the G7 countries and the European Union were with them on the trip.
In April 2014, the Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation against the self-proclaimed LPR and DPR, which declared independence after the coup d’etat in Ukraine in February 2014.
The settlement of the situation in Donbass is discussed, among other things, during the meetings in Minsk of the contact group, which since September 2014 has adopted three documents on the de-escalation of the conflict. However, after the armistice agreements between the parties to the conflict, shootings continue.
According to the latest UN data, about 13 thousand people became victims of the conflict.
