Brazil approved the use of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine

The Collegiate Council of the Brazilian National Sanitary Inspection Agency Anvisa has approved the import and emergency use of the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine, RIA Novosti reports.

Anvisa leadership supported the decision, which was fought for by the governors of six Brazilian states, the Interregional Development Consortium of Brazil and the Uniao Quimica laboratory. The states of Bahia, Pernambuco, Ceara, Maranhão, Piauí and Sergip will receive permission to import the Russian vaccine. Among the conditions for the delivery of Sputnik V is the shipment of the vaccine only from manufacturing facilities verified by Anvisa.

Earlier, the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) Kirill Dmitriev said that the first consignments of the Russian drug Sputnik V would be delivered to Brazil in July.

“ANVISA was initially provided with all the necessary documents, and later, after the decision to postpone the approval of Sputnik V, none of the questions raised by the regulator was left unanswered”, – Dmitriev said.

Currently, the Russian Sputnik V vaccine has been approved for use in 67 countries with a total population of 3.4 billion people. It is based on a well-studied adenoviral platform, which ensures high efficacy and safety of the vaccine.
