Brazil’s national regulator Anvisa will again consider importing the Russian vaccine Sputnik V on June 4, Anvisa said in a statement
“The board of Anvisa will hold an emergency meeting on 4 June. The directors will review requests for permission to import and distribute the Covaxin and Sputnik V vaccines”, – the statement said.
In late April, Brazilian regulator Anvisa rejected regional governments’ request to import the Sputnik V vaccine pending the provision of “missing information”. Developers of the vaccine described the decision as politicised and having nothing to do with the regulator’s access to information. According to them, this is also confirmed by data from a report of the US Department of Health and Human Services, which states that the agency tried to pressure Brazilian authorities to refuse to purchase the Russian vaccine.
The regulator was then handed the missing documents for the importation of the Russian vaccine against COVID-19.
