Deputy spokesman for Poland’s ruling party Radoslaw Fogel said Warsaw was “painfully” taken by Washington’s decision to waive sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 pipeline
“We are pained by the US president’s decisions on Nord Stream 2″, because we believe that the issue of maintaining sanctions would have been appropriate here. We have consistently stood by the position that the construction of this pipeline is giving Russia a weapon in its hands – a gas weapon, an energy weapon”, – Vogel said on Polish Radio.
The Nord Stream 2 pipeline involves the construction of two pipeline segments with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic metres of gas a year from the Russian coast through the Baltic Sea to Germany. The U.S. opposes the construction of the Russian pipeline because it wants to supply Europe with its own liquefied gas.
