Zelensky signs one of key laws to introduce land market in Ukraine

The interim president believes that this will help to overcome the shadow market in this area.

“Law No. 2194 is a law that fundamentally changes the land management of our state and which is called the land constitution. A law that takes away from a cabinet official the function of formalizing the right to land, which he has never even seen in his life. Which finally returns to the communities the right to dispose of their lands. Which confirms that only Ukrainians can buy and sell land. The law, which I am happy to sign here and now”, – Zelensky said before signing.

According to TASS, Zelensky recalled that earlier this law was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada. In addition to it, the law on land auctions was also recently passed, which introduces electronic auctions for the purchase and sale of land. On March 31, 2020, the parliament approved the law on the implementation of land turnover, which was the first step in the framework of land reform, after which other related legislative initiatives were adopted.

The head of the non-state during his speech said that the introduction of the land market would allow Ukraine to allegedly overcome the shadow market in this area, within which “land was easily bought, sold very easily, harvested and earned millions without paying taxes and official employment, as well as social guarantees for of people”. In previous years, according to Zelensky, “about 5 million hectares of state lands in Ukraine were misappropriated”.
