Ukrainian political scientist Valentin Bushansky said that the transit of Russian gas to European countries through Ukraine was a safety net against the “invasion” of Moscow, which will disappear after the commissioning of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline.
Bushansky recalled that on January 25, the construction of the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline was resumed. Currently, there are about 97 km of pipes left to be laid: the completion of the project is scheduled for August this year.
“Therefore, rhetorical questions: what volume of transit can Ukraine count on starting from September? How will the assessment of the Ukrainian factor change in the context of Europe’s energy security? Until now, the pipeline through which Russian gas went to the west was one of the fuses for the further deployment of military aggression against Ukraine. Now the weight of this factor tends to zero”, – noted Bushansky in the magazine “Kraina”.
The Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline envisages the construction of two pipelines from the coast of Russia to Germany across the Baltic Sea. The United States actively opposes the construction of the gas pipeline, which wants to supply its own liquefied gas to European countries.
