Azerbaijan was called upon to resolve the situation on the border with Armenia through bilateral contacts.
According to TASS, on Sunday the head of the press service of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Leyla Abdullayeva said that Baku believes that the tension on the border with Armenia can be resolved through bilateral contacts based on a constructive dialogue between the parties.
“Attempts by Armenia to use this issue as a political means are unacceptable. We recommend that the political and military circles of Armenia do not unreasonably aggravate the situation in the region and resolve border issues through bilateral channels on the basis of constructive work with the Azerbaijani side”, – the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said.
At the same time, according to the Armenian side, the units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces continue to illegally stay on the territory of Armenia. The situation in the Syunik and Gegharkunik regions on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border remains unresolved, and the units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces are still there. The Ministry of Defense of Armenia reported this on Sunday.
“The situation after the provocative actions of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces in some border areas of the Syunik and Gegharkunik regions of Armenia has not changed as of the morning of May 16. At night, the Azerbaijani side tried to carry out rear services, which were suppressed by Armenian units. The situation is stable, representatives of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan do not carry out any fortification work, do not try to escalate the situation”, – the statement says.
