Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said that his country expects the supply of Russian vaccine against the Sputnik V coronavirus in serious volumes. He spoke two days after Turkey’s health minister said vaccines would be more scarce in the next two months, but Turkey has signed a deal for 50 million doses of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine, which will begin shipping in May.
“I don’t think we will have problems with the supply of vaccines. Russia will receive a large amount of Sputnik V. We have held negotiations. But if it is necessary, then we will talk with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the required amount will be supplied”, – Erdogan told the reporters.
The Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine has already been approved in 60 countries with a total population of about 3 billion people. Sputnik V ranks second in the world in terms of the number of approvals received by government regulators.
The vaccine efficacy was 97.6% based on the analysis of data on 3.8 million vaccinated Russians, which is higher than the data previously published by the medical journal The Lancet (91.6%), the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and the Gamaleya Research Center reported earlier.
