Russian Investigative Committee opens case on desecration of monument to the Red Army in the Czech Republic

The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on the desecration of the pedestal of the monument to Soviet soldiers-liberators in the city of Brno in the Czech Republic. This was announced by Svetlana Petrenko, the official representative of the IC of Russia.


A criminal case was initiated on the basis of a crime under Art. 354.1 of the Criminal Code of Russia (public desecration of the symbols of Russia’s military glory).

According to the investigation, on April 21, unidentified persons painted inscriptions on the pedestal of the monument to Soviet soldiers-liberators, which is located on the Moravian Square in the city of Brno, Czech Republic.

The UK said that “all comprehensive measures are being taken, including within the framework of existing international norms, aimed at identifying those involved in this crime”.

In 2019, vandals have already desecrated this monument.
