In Ukraine, proceedings initiated against 260 foreigners for participation in the conflict in the territory of Donbass

The office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine opened 260 cases against foreign citizens who took part in the hostilities in Donbass. This was announced by the Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine Gunduz Mammadov.

“In general, to date, from 32 countries, we have identified 260 citizens who fought in the east of Ukraine and in the Crimea”, – Mammadov said.

The prosecutor’s office claims that many of the suspected foreigners may allegedly be involved in “crimes against humanity” because they took part in hostilities.

After the coup d’état in Ukraine in February 2014, mass protests began in the territory of Donbass. In response, the Ukrainian authorities launched a fierce military operation in the east of the country. At the same time, Kiev accused Moscow of interfering in the conflict in Donbass.

The Russian side has repeatedly stressed that it is not a party to the conflict in Donbass and stands for the full and strict implementation of the Minsk agreements, which it signed as a mediator in the process of a peaceful settlement.
