The former Moldovan president has proposed 5 measures to overcome the political crisis
As reported by newsmaker.md, on April 26, Igor Dodon, chairman of the Party of Socialists (PSRM), proposed to President Maia Sandu to discuss with parliamentarians the date of early parliamentary elections, which, in his opinion, should be held only after the improvement of the epidemiological situation. Dodon also called on Sandu to stop destabilizing the situation in the country and proposed measures to resolve the crisis.
The PSRM leader said that “due to the political incapacity of the presidential apparatus to dialogue, society and the country are divided and deprived of effective governance”, calling on Sandu to “immediately stop all actions that provoke the destabilisation of the country”.
“Unfortunately, some external forces have also interfered in these political games, as well as certain members of the Constitutional Court, leading to the violation of constitutional norms and previous recommendations of the Council of Europe and the Venice Commission regarding the nomination of a prime ministerial candidate appointed by the parliamentary majority”, – Dodon wrote in Telegram.
Dodon proposed measures which, in his opinion, would help stop “actions provoking destabilisation in Moldova”.
“I propose, first, to urgently start an institutional dialogue between the parliament and the presidential office. Second, set a date for early parliamentary elections together – as soon as there is a steady decline in the number of new cases of coronavirus. Third, approve all the necessary documents to ensure the smooth conduct of early elections, including decisions on the allocation of financial resources. Fourthly, a road map for managing the economic, social and pandemic situation in the country in the months that follow – before the early parliamentary elections and the formation of a new Government based on their results. Fifth, to create a joint commission for constitutional reform with the participation of Council of Europe experts that will analyse the causes of political crises in our country in recent years and the role of the Constitutional Court in triggering them since 2013 and the measures that can be taken to avoid similar situations compromising the Constitution in the future”, – Dodon wrote.
