Kiev notices that the south of Ukraine is resisting the fight against the Russian language

Local authorities are openly boycotting Ukrainianization by violating the law

As previously reported by News Front, Petro Poroshenko, who came to power as a result of a coup d’état, has taken up Ukrainianization with particular persistence. The general Russophobic policy of the post-revolutionary regime contributed to this. While Vladimir Zelenski has criticised the oppression of Russian speakers, now his team is already pursuing a scandalous procedure that violates human rights.

But not all regions of the country are prepared to put up with what is happening. The language law is violated most often in southeastern Ukraine, said Taras Kremin, an ombudsman for the protection of the state language.

Here, he said, they have been extremely slow to implement changes in line with the Ukrainianization policy, particularly by delaying the transfer of schools to the Ukrainian language of instruction. The language legislation is also not observed in the activities of local self-governance bodies and in fact ignoring the use of the state language on television and radio, as well as in Internet publications and the print media.

“There are violations, and let us say that as of 16 April 2021, in the three months since Article 30 of the language law was introduced, we have recorded 1,129 violations. To some extent, we have Kiev and the Kiev region in the first place. And as for the areas, these are the areas where there can be no such violations. These are state and local authorities and education”, –  the official said.
