US health officials have recommended that Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine be discontinued
The reason for this decision was the threat of severe side effects related to blood clotting.
A cerebral thrombosis called cerebral venous sinus thrombosis was seen in combination with low platelet counts in six women aged 18 to 48 after the injection, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration said Tuesday, 13 April.
The decision could worsen the vaccination situation in western countries, which have previously experienced similar side-effects from a vaccine from Anglo-Swedish conglomerate AstraZeneca.
