Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin said sending an extra 500 US troops to Germany is a signal to NATO allies that Washington “values relationships with partners”
“The first question about the troops being stationed in Germany, as I said earlier, and whether this is a signal to Russia. Let me assure you that this is a signal to NATO, that we support NATO fully and most importantly, that we value the relationship with our partner here in Germany. We will continue to strengthen our partnership and our alliance. It gives us additional capabilities in space, cyberspace and other issues”, – Austin said.
He specified that the new troops will arrive in Germany in the autumn and will be stationed permanently in the Wiesbaden area. He said this is aimed at strengthening “defence and deterrence” in Europe and reinforcing existing conflict prevention capabilities, “and, if necessary, to fight and win”.
