Washington openly opposes the construction of the pipeline and is making active efforts to block this project.
According to TASS, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, who is on a visit to Brussels, during a meeting with German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, stressed that Washington opposes the implementation of the project to build the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline.
“Secretary Blinken stressed the US commitment to working with allies and partners to counter Russia’s attempts to undermine our collective security and, in this vein, highlighted the fact that the United States is opposed to the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline”, – the State Department press service said.
In turn, a high-ranking State Department spokesman said at a press briefing that Blinken, at a meeting with Maas, “made it clear and repeated again what was in his statement” about the Nord Stream-2 project.
“This is a bad deal that we oppose and have always opposed. <…> This is what he stated during a relatively short meeting”, – said a State Department official.
The transcript of the briefing was circulated on Tuesday by the press service of the US Foreign Ministry.
