Federation Council responds to words of NATO Secretary General about Russia’s aggressive behavior

Russia is able to ensure its defense capability, the modernization of weapons will continue, Sergei Tsekov, a member of the international committee of the Federation Council, told RIA Novosti on Wednesday.

Earlier, NATO accused Russia of “aggressive behavior” and declared the need to restrain Moscow’s actions.

“The statement by the representatives of the alliance testifies to the fact that the West is starting a new arms race”, – Tsekov said.

He stressed that although Western countries accuse Russia of a “threat”, the history of the last 200-300 years suggests that “the aggression was from the European countries against Russia”.

“I am not worried about the defense capability of our country, we will be able to ensure our security, the modernization of weapons and the development of the latest models will continue”, – the parliamentarian said.

Tsekov also noted that the threat to the world community “exists from NATO”. The wars that have been unleashed over the past 30 years – the bombing of Yugoslavia, the events in Iraq, Libya – show who poses a real threat to peace, he stressed.
