Libya’s parliament on Wednesday approved the country’s elected government of national accord. 132 out of 178 deputies voted for the transitional cabinet.
The Government of National Accord will be sworn in at a later meeting in Benghazi. Its leaders were elected in early February by the warring parties at a meeting in Geneva, which was mediated by the UN.
According to experts, parliamentary support for the new government has become the most important event for many years, which contributes to the resolution of the Libyan conflict. The new cabinet will replace two parallel governments that were competing for power in the country.
