Heads of State attending the first day of the summit will discuss challenges related to the vaccination process, the creation of COVID certificates as well as measures to limit the free movement of citizens
An emergency two-day summit of European Union heads of state and government on pandemic coronavirus and security issues began on Thursday by video conference, European Council spokesman Barend Leites told reporters.
“The videoconference of 27 leaders has just started”, – he said.
On the first day of the summit, European Union leaders will discuss challenges related to the vaccination process, the creation of COVID certificates as well as existing measures to limit the free movement of community citizens and the economic difficulties arising from them.
The second day of the summit will be devoted to EU defence and security issues. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has been invited to participate in the meeting, with whom the heads of state and government will discuss relations between the community and the alliance.
This is the second video conference of the leaders of the 27 EU member states this year. The first took place at the end of January and focused entirely on the pandemic.
