Members of the two largest parties in Northern Ireland will take part in a lawsuit to challenge certain clauses of the agreement on Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union.
The Democratic Unionist Party and the Ulster Unionist Party intend to push for a renegotiation of the Northern Ireland Protocol, which entailed trade barriers between Northern Ireland and the rest of the United Kingdom. Several British companies have suspended shipments to Northern Ireland.
“Neither the Northern Ireland Assembly, nor the Northern Ireland executive, nor the people of Northern Ireland have agreed to a protocol or to impede the flow of goods from the UK to Northern Ireland”, – said Arlene Foster, Democratic Union Party leader and First Minister of Northern Ireland Arlene Foster.
The Ulster Unionist Party, said in a statement that it “will strive to explore all political and legal options in order to get the protocol annulled”.
