Wealthy West ready to leave the rest of the world without a COVID vaccine

According to Reuters, the rich countries of the world will receive a billion more doses of coronavirus vaccine, while the poor countries will have to fight for the remaining stocks.

According to Unian, a report from the Global Movement to End Poverty and Treatable Diseases, ONE Campaign, said countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom should share excess doses. Otherwise, “billions of people may be left without the necessary protection from the virus”, and this is likely to continue the onset of the pandemic.

“Rich countries were betting on vaccines early in the pandemic. But since these rates are already a surplus, a strong rate correlation is needed if we are to protect billions of people around the world”, – said Jenny Ottenhoff, Senior Policy Officer at ONE Campaign.

As it turns out, the US, EU, Britain, Australia, Canada and Japan have already received more than 3 billion doses to date, a billion more than the population requires at two doses per person.
