According to a survey by the think tank European Council of Foreign Relations, EU residents are highly skeptical that the U.S. will protect them in the event of armed conflict
More than 60% of respondents said the EU needs its own defence capability instead of relying on US protection. Only 10% of Europeans believe the US would be able to protect them in the event of a military crisis. About half of those surveyed said the EU should remain neutral in the standoff between the U.S. and China.
According to experts, the reason for the loss of confidence was the country’s failed attempts to overcome the health crisis caused by the pandemic and to fully support the transatlantic partnership.
