State Duma responds to Borrell’s words about new sanctions against Russia

Sanctions against Russia have not changed Moscow’s position on domestic and foreign policy, State Duma deputy Ruslan Balbek said in an interview with RT.

So he commented on the words of the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, about the possible introduction of new sanctions by the European Union against Russia.

According to Balbec, Borrell is upset by the fact that Moscow is following its own path, rather than listening to “commands from Brussels”.

“I think that it was said about the new sanctions out of insult”, – the deputy explained.

He also suggested that Poland, as well as the Baltic countries, would insist on new measures. “Old” Europe will have a more “balanced opinion”.

Earlier, the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said that he intends to propose to introduce new anti-Russian sanctions. This issue will be considered at a meeting of the Council by the head of the EU Foreign Ministry on February 22, and then at a summit in March. He noted that Russia “did not live up to expectations” and “did not become a modern democracy”. According to him, Brussels is disappointed with the level of relations with Moscow. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that if the sanctions are adopted, a response will follow.
