Trump’s lawyer withdrew request to suspend impeachment process

Former US President Donald Trump’s lawyer, David Sean, has withdrawn a request to suspend the impeachment process from Friday evening to Sunday due to the need to observe Shabbat, Hill reports.

Earlier, Sean sent a letter to Democratic Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Republican Leader Mitch McConnell in the Senate, in which he noted that he professes Judaism and observes Shabbat, which is why he will not be able to participate in the proceedings after sunset on Friday. In this regard, he asked to suspend the process if it is not completed by the beginning of Shabbat (17.24 Friday local time). Then the representative of Sumer, Justin Goodman, said that the request would be granted.

The lawyer sent another letter on Monday, withdrawing his request and expressing fears that, through his fault, the process would be delayed.

“That way you would have lost the Friday night and the entire Saturday when you originally intended to lead the process. I am very grateful for your decision, but I am still concerned about the delay in the process, which I think is very important to follow through for everyone involved. individuals and for the whole country… Today I am writing to withdraw my request, and the process continued as planned before it”, – wrote Sean.

At the same time, the lawyer noted that he would not be present at the trial on Saturday.

The House of Representatives had previously impeached Trump, accusing him of inciting a crowd that seized the congressional building on January 6. The Senate is set to consider retroactively impeaching Trump next week.
