British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and French President Emmanuel Macron have held a telephone conversation during which they discussed joint efforts to combat the coronavirus as well as Russia, Yemen and relations with Iran. The British head of government’s office said in a statement released on Friday.
“The leaders discussed the fight against the coronavirus. The Prime Minister stressed that world leaders would play an important role in the effective distribution of vaccines to defeat the pandemic. They agreed that a successful global vaccination programme would require joint efforts of governments”, – said the statement.
In addition, the parties “discussed a number of international topics, including Iran, Yemen, Libya and Russia”.
“They agreed that the work of the UK, France and other European countries continues to be key in creating a safer world,” the statement said. The British head of government also pointed out during the talk that the country’s exit from the European Union “has opened up a huge opportunity to deepen and expand bilateral relations with France”.
In addition, Johnson told Macron about the UK’s priorities for this year’s Group of Seven (G7) presidency and drew attention to the importance of tackling climate change ahead of the 26th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-26), to be held in Glasgow, Scotland, in December.
