Radicals may mess up Biden’s inauguration

The symbolic day for the American system when a new president takes office could be marred by a storming of the White House

As News Front reported, January in the US began with the storming of the Congress building in Washington. This is how Donald Trump’s supporters tried to prevent the approval of the results of the presidential election, in which cases of fraud in favor of Democrat Joe Biden were recorded. The protesters were attacked by security forces and the protest was put down, but experts fear a repeat of the unrest. This time on the day of the Democrat’s inauguration.

“We see the chatter from these white supremacist supporters, these far-right extremists – they feel bold at this point”, –  Jonathan Greenblatt, head of the Anti-Defamation League, which tracks and counters hatred, said in a commentary for CNN.

A second wave of chaos is almost inevitable before the situation in the US normalises, he said.

John Scott-Railton, a senior researcher at Citizen Lab, which monitors cybersecurity, for his part, is concerned about the prospects for the inauguration.

“While the general public was stunned by what happened at the Capitol, in right-wing circles what happened is seen as a success”, –  he stresses.

Against this backdrop, the US Secret Service was quick to assure that it would provide security on inauguration day, as the procedure is “a fundamental element of our democracy”.

“The safety of all participants in the 59th presidential inauguration is of paramount importance”, –  the agency assured.
