Two buildings near the US Capitol complex evacuated due to protests

The Cannon House office building and at least one Library of Congress building were evacuated. This information was confirmed by NBC4 congressional staff.

The reason for the evacuation was not immediately clear. However, protests in the area have drawn crowds of supporters for President Donald Trump as Congress is set to count the electoral college votes received by President-elect Joe Biden.

Pro-Trump protesters attempted to storm barricades erected outside the US Capitol compound and law enforcement officials were seen trying to push them back, NBC News reported.
