According to the Telegram channel Welders, the US Navy Command has reported that fleet experts have identified a problem with the propulsion systems of 10 ships
“Fleet specialists have identified problems with the propulsion systems of the coastal ships USS Detroit and USS Little Rock, namely faulty clutch bearings in the combined gearbox that connects the gas turbines and diesel engines to the propeller shafts that allow the ships to move through the water”, – the channel reports.
They said the identified design flaw could lead to costly repairs and downtime at the bases of 10 active US Navy warships. The US government has initiated an investigation and a joint Navy and Lockheed Martin manufacturing team has begun a root cause analysis of the defect.
