Kosovo authorities choose ‘first step’ to join NATO

The Adriatic Charter will be the first step in Kosovo’s accession process to the North Atlantic Alliance.

The region’s accession to the Adriatic Charter was announced by Kosovo Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Minister Melisa Haradinaj Stubla during an online meeting of the Adriatic Charter organisation’s partnership commission.

The Adriatic Charter was founded in 2003 by Albania, Croatia and Macedonia to prepare the armed forces of those countries for NATO membership. In 2012, Kosovo became an observer of the Adriatic Charter and actively participated in all forums of the organisation.

“Kosovo is firmly on the path to Euro-Atlantic integration,” the foreign minister said.
