Sarmat missile system will take its first combat duty in 2022

The Strategic Missile Forces will put the Sarmat on alert in 2022.

Earlier, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that the modernization of production for the start of serial production of Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missiles has been completed.

“At present, industrial enterprises continue to set readiness for state flight tests of the Sarmat missile system. Already today, work has been launched in the Uzhur missile formation to prepare the head missile regiment for rearmament. It is planned to be put on alert in 2022”, – said the commander of the Strategic Missile Forces Sergei Karakaev.

The RS-28 “Sarmat” is a promising Russian fifth-generation silo-based strategic missile system with a heavy multistage liquid-propellant intercontinental ballistic missile. The new RS-28 missile features an improved propulsion system that gives it the highest performance.

According to experts, “the threat of the retaliatory use of Sarmat missiles capable of breaking through any existing anti-missile defense and delivering precise strikes using one or another combat equipment should act soberingly on the overly ardent command of a potential enemy”.
