EU reminded Ukraine of necessity to solve constitutional crisis

EU representative Josep Borrel and his colleague Oliver Vargeyi held an online meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal and Deputy Prime Minister Olga Stefanishina

EU representatives stated that the recently adopted law on declaration “is a step in the right direction in response to the decision of the Constitutional Court of October 27, but contains some shortcomings”. In their opinion, the law on electronic declarations does not create the necessary effect to prevent corruption.

Borrel and Vargyi reminded about the necessity to take measures concerning the constitutional crisis that appeared in Ukraine. It is also important to restore criminal liability for false declarations.

At the end of October this year the Constitutional Court of Ukraine declared unconstitutional the criminal responsibility for false declaration. This decision of the CCU caused a great resonance in political circles.
