One year after the first coronavirus cases were reported, the United States is experiencing the worst days since the pandemic
On Friday, an alarming record was set: over 226 new cases of COVID-19 infection were detected across the country, with around 280,000 Americans already deceased from coronavirus.
“We are in the middle of this really serious wave, and I think as we go through this pandemic day by day, it’s easy to lose sight of the magnitude and depth of the tragedy”, – said Caitlin Rivers, Senior Research Fellow at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, in a comment to The New York Times.
If in the spring it was thought that COVID-19 was a problem for large metropolises like New York, now the disease has spread to all parts of America. At the same time, the most vulnerable group remains the poor, who are unable to work remotely, writes NYT.
Earlier, News Front reported that preparations for mass vaccinations have begun in the United States. The first batch of 3.2 million doses is expected to arrive by mid-December.
However, this is not enough to provide 21 million American health workers. Moreover, the authorities have chosen to vaccinate Pentagon officials and a number of other federal agencies first.
