The President-elect of Moldova met with the head of the EU permanent delegation in Chisinau, Peter Mikhalko.
At a meeting with the head of the EU permanent delegation in Chisinau, Peter Mikhalco, elected President of Moldova, Maya Sandu announced plans to boost relations with the European Union, the Action and Solidarity Party led by Sandu reported on Wednesday.
“Sandu assured that she will do her utmost to ensure that Moldova gets as many resources as possible after the intensification of cooperation within the framework of the Association Agreement with the EU”, – the statement said. – “We need support for the development of localities in order to improve the living standards of citizens”, – Sandu was quoted as saying.
The party’s press service said that today, Sandu also had a meeting with US Ambassador to Chisinau Derek Hogan, whom she thanked for the US support provided to Moldova. Earlier Sandu informed TASS that this week she is scheduled to meet with Russian Ambassador Oleg Vasnetsov. She also noted that she is interested in good relations with Moscow.
The second round of presidential elections took place in Moldavia on Sunday. According to preliminary data from the Central Electoral Commission of Moldova, Sandu won with 57.7% of the vote and the current president, Igor Dodon, with 42.2%. Until 25 November, the Commission should summarize the results of the elections and send them to the Constitutional Court for approval. If the candidates challenge the results, the court will have to wait for the lower courts to complete their procedures. Dodon’s term of office expires on 23 December, after which he will serve as Head of the Republic until the inauguration of the new President.
