On 11 November, a march of many thousands is held every year in Warsaw to celebrate Poland’s independence in 1918. This time the march was banned by the authorities because of the coronavirus pandemic, but nationalist and ultra-right organisations ignored the demands and took their supporters outside.
For example, in the area of the National Museum on Jerusalem Alleys in Warsaw, law enforcement agencies blocked the movement of tens of thousands of demonstrators and called on them to disperse. The march participants, in turn, began throwing police lights at them.
The law enforcers used tear gas, but this did not stop the convoy, and the protesters continued moving through the city towards the National Stadium.
