A funeral ceremony dedicated to the deceased teacher will be held in Paris on 21 October in the courtyard of the Sorbonne University.
The French authorities have decided to award the Legion of Honour to a schoolteacher who died on 16 October at the hands of a radical Islamist. This was announced on Tuesday by French Minister of Education Jean-Michel Blanker in an interview with BFM TV.
“Samuel Pati will be awarded the Legion of Honour posthumously and will also be Commander of the Order of the Academic Palms”, – said Blanker, who called the deceased a ‘martyr’ in his speech. The Party is awarded the highest state award of France and at the same time the main award of the country for services in education and science.
On Wednesday, a mourning ceremony dedicated to the deceased teacher will be held in Paris in the courtyard of the Sorbonne University. It will be chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron, who will speak about the need to fight terrorism and Islamist radicalism.
On Tuesday, the Minister of Education stressed the importance of “explaining to children what is behind the murder of the Patis”. He said that a minute of silence would be held in all schools and lyceums on 2 November and a special lesson would be held on events in the city of Conflant- Saint Honorin.
