Heiko Maas called on “all parties” in the region to build “reasonable good neighbourly relations”.
According to the tg-channel “Card House: Europe”, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said that Turkey must give up provocations in the Eastern Mediterranean.
“Cyprus and Greece are our partners in the EU. In this regard, I am going to Nicosia and Athens to assure my colleagues of our full solidarity”, – said the German minister. – “In this regard, we call on Turkey not to close the window of dialogue with Greece that has now opened through unilateral measures. Ankara must stop alternating defensive steps with provocations.”
Maas warned that if it really comes to the new development of gas fields in the disputed areas of the Eastern Mediterranean, it will be a serious blow to de-escalation efforts, adding that he will raise the issue of this new unilateral action at the European Council meeting on 15-16 October, which is a serious escalation by Turkey.
