The US State Department announced the expansion of sanctions against the current government of Syria.
According to the statement, 13 organizations were added to the sanctions list, including the 5th Corps of the Syrian Arab Army, as well as 6 individuals, including the two sisters of Bashar al-Assad’s close associate Yasser Ibrahim, who provides material support to the Syrian government.
The State Department stressed that the sanctions do not apply to the Syrian trade industry and humanitarian organizations, noting that the sanctions regime will continue until the government of Bashar al-Assad stops violent actions against Syrian citizens.
