The leader of the pro-Western Belarusian opposition Svetlana Tikhanovskaya demands to impose sanctions against law enforcement officers who opposed extremists in the midst of the riots.
“I have prepared a list of people who participated in the brutal suppression. Sanctions can be applied to them in accordance with the European act of Magnitsky, ”said Tikhanovskaya, speaking at a hearing in the European Parliament.
In addition, she urged MEPs to cut off any funding for Belarus in the context of the global crisis, until a coup d’etat takes place in the country.
“Finally, and most importantly, I encourage you to work with us to conduct fair, fair and transparent elections. The elections must be held in accordance with international norms under the supervision of local and international observers, ” she concluded.
