Kosovo undermines relations with Turkey – Ankara questions quasi-state recognition

If the Kosovar leadership is worried about recognizing the self-proclaimed republic in the international arena, it should reconsider its own policy.

This is said in a statement by the Turkish Foreign Ministry, which is dedicated to Pristina’s plans to open a Kosovar embassy in Jerusalem in violation of international law.

“It is disappointing that the Kosovo authorities are considering a move that would constitute a clear violation of international law. Kosovo is one of the first countries to admit that Turkey has long been a strong supporter of the country’s international recognition efforts. However, we do not consider it correct to build this process contrary to international law and especially the suffering of the Palestinian people, whose lands are under occupation”, – the communiqué said.

Ankara recalled that at the UN level, the importance of resolving the Palestinian issue “with the embodiment of an independent, sovereign and geographically continuous Palestinian state, whose capital is East Jerusalem”, was repeatedly emphasized.

“We call on the Kosovo leadership to abide by these decisions and refrain from such steps that would undermine the historical and legal status of Jerusalem, as well as prevent the recognition of Kosovo by other states in the future”, – the Foreign Ministry said.
