EU demands veto on UK post-Brexit laws

The European Union insists on blocking British laws and regulations that were adopted after the kingdom left the Commonwealth.

This was reported on Saturday, September 5, by The Times, referring to high-ranking officials in the government.

According to media reports, the EU representative in negotiations with Britain, Michel Barnier, demanded that London not make any changes to UK legislation that could distort trade with the bloc, without first consulting Brussels. British diplomat David Frost rejected this approach.

After the United Kingdom withdrew from the European Union, a transitional period entered into force, maintaining the conditions for cooperation at the same level. During this time, the parties must conclude a trade agreement, but the chances of this are reduced, since the negotiations are at an impasse.
