The Danish Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian ambassador to the country over the incident with the Russian Su-27, which was launched into the air to intercept foreign military aircraft over the Baltic Sea and allegedly violated Danish borders.
“Earlier today, Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod summoned the Russian Ambassador to a meeting with the Foreign Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This is a response to Russia’s violation of Danish airspace on Bornholm on August 28, 2020, ” the Danish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The Russian Ministry of Defense has denied NATO’s statement about the violation of the Danish border by the Russian Su-27. The flight of the Russian Su-27 fighter, which was raised to identify the US Air Force B-52H strategic bomber, took place over the neutral waters of the Baltic Sea without violating the Danish border, the department said. The flight was carried out in strict accordance with the International Rules for the Use of Airspace. This is confirmed by means of objective control, the Russian Ministry of Defense stressed.
