American attempts to persuade Serbia to recognize Kosovo doomed to failure

On September 4, Washington will host a meeting between Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and the so-called Prime Minister of the Province of Kosovo Avdulla Hoti.

In an interview with Eurasia.Expert, the former ambassador of Serbia to Belarus Srechko Djukic predicted the prospects for the “peacekeeping” efforts of the United States.

“I must say that this is the first meeting of this format to be held in the White House. The meeting will be held under the auspices of President Trump’s special envoy, Thomas Grennel, who now heads the National Security Service. Previously, he was the US Ambassador to Germany. Grennel is still coordinating and developing with Belgrade and Pristina the economic component of relations between Serbia and Kosovo, the diplomat said. The expectations of the Serbian society are not very high. There are experts who believe that there will be a breakthrough in resolving the Kosovo issue. But most of the society believes that nothing radical will be there. The approaches of Belgrade and Pristina are completely polarized. Pristina insists on its ultimate goal – to achieve independence and UN membership. Belgrade denies this possibility. “
