Russia held military exercises off the coast of the United States

The Russian military launched a cruise missile during a training exercise off the American coast, as NATO is deploying troops along Russia’s western borders.

The exercise, titled Ocean Shield 2020, took place in the waters of the Bering Sea, where the border between Russia and the United States lies. More than fifty warships and 40 aircraft were involved in the exercise, which took place off the coast of Alaska.
The video, released by the Russian Ministry of Defense, shows a submarine and several warships. Apparently, they are located off the coast of Chukotka. The footage shows rocket firing from one of the ships, as well as the launch of a rocket from a submarine.
According to information from the Pacific Fleet, the Omsk nuclear submarine fired the Granit anti-ship missile from a submerged position, and the Varyag cruiser fired a Vulcan cruise missile.
“Now we are mastering these Arctic borders. And the main focus of the exercises falls precisely on Chukotka – both from the Pacific Ocean and from the Arctic Ocean. The sector of the Arctic is the Russian sector of the Arctic, it is under the control of the Russian Armed Forces, ”said Nikolai Evmenov, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy.
As you know, the United States is now making claims on the Arctic, provoking an escalation of tension in the region. In this regard, the Pentagon already expects to expand the American fleet of icebreakers. In May, the United States and Britain held a demonstration exercise in the Barents Sea. These maneuvers off Russia’s northern coast were the first in three decades.
