EU will allocate an additional 53 million euros to “aid to the Belarusian people”

The European Union will allocate an additional 53 million euros to help the people of Belarus in connection with the events in the country. This was stated by the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

“We decided to allocate an additional 53 million euros to support the Belarusian people in these difficult times,” she said.

According to her, 2 million euros will go to help some “victims of repression and unacceptable state violence”, another 1 million euros will be directed to support civil society and independent media. Thus, the EU continues to add fuel to the fire, fueling protest sentiments in Belarus.

“The remaining 50 million euros is allocated for emergency support in connection with the spread of the coronavirus,” she said.

The European Commission will redistribute funds within the existing programs of European assistance to Belarus.

Von der Leyen did not specify for how long the money was allocated.
