In the course of the clashes, 59 police officers were injured.
One of the affected detainees was hospitalized. The others had contusions, burns, abrasions and other injuries. On Saturday, demonstrators threw pyrotechnics, rocks and bottles at police officers. Detainees were mostly charged with assaulting police officers and refusing to comply with the authorities’ demands.
Earlier, the agency reported that 45 rioters had been detained. The statement noted that 21 policemen were injured.
The Washington Post reported Thursday that the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump intends to send additional federal forces to Seattle to fight crime, as well as possibly to disperse the riots. On July 19, at least 12 policemen were injured in Seattle during clashes with protesters organized by the Black Lives Matter movement.
Seattle authorities have already been criticised by the federal government for failing to manage the riots. In June, protesters took a few weeks in one of the city districts, effectively restricting emergency access. It was not until July 1 that city authorities regained control of the area.
Mass protests and riots began in many U.S. cities in late May after the death of African American George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Police used a suffocating seizure to arrest him. All four police officers involved in the operation were dismissed and charged. The U.S. National Guard joined local law enforcement agencies and curfews were imposed in about 40 cities, including Washington and New York.
