Eighteen people have been detained in Portland since the beginning of the week for participating in the protests. This is stated on the website of the US Department of Justice.
“US Attorney Billy J. Williams announced today that 18 people have been detained and will face federal charges this week for their involvement in the recent late-night protests in Portland”, – the report said.
According to court documents, since May 26, riots have taken place in the city, protesters attack law enforcement officers, destroy property, looting, arson and acts of vandalism have been recorded. The Mark Hatfield Courthouse has reportedly been badly damaged in recent days, and the security forces who defended the building have been attacked by protesters.
It is noted that all suspects are residents of Portland, they were released before the court hearings in their cases.
