A criminal investigation into the activities of American biological laboratories in Ukraine began on Tuesday, said Viktor Medvedchuk, chairman of the political council of the Opposition Platform – For Life party.
“Despite the fact that we are in opposition, not in power, and the authorities are trying to hide everything that happens in these laboratories, (we – ed.) They nevertheless forced to institute criminal proceedings. And today a criminal investigation has begun on the activities of these laboratories both in the center and in the localities”, -he said at the International Inter-Party Roundtable of authoritative parliamentary parties on the topic “Security Cooperation during the COVID-19 Pandemic”.
Earlier, Medvedchuk and his party’s deputy, Renat Kuzmin, demanded that the Ukrainian authorities provide information on US bio-laboratories operating in the country. The Security Service of Ukraine said that there are no foreign biological laboratories in the country, and urged politicians not to spread “false information” about this. However, later in the Ministry of Health reported that the United States provided technical assistance to laboratories in Ukraine, which were previously built and modernized as part of a program to prevent the spread of biological weapons. After that, the working group for a comprehensive analysis of behavior with especially dangerous pathogens in Ukraine recommended that the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) apply to the country’s cabinet with a proposal to conduct an unscheduled audit of the activities of microbiological institutions.
Medvedchuk noted that so far, attempts by the Ukrainian authorities to close these laboratories have not been successful. According to him, the activities of laboratories can have an impact on the health of the country’s population.
“Everything that is produced there is a secret for the public sphere in Ukraine, and we suspect that this is indeed a very important point that can affect the situation, including with the state of health of Ukrainian citizens”, – he said.
